Windows configuring ECSync when Office program such as Word is started

Sometimes when I click on a program icon such as Word to open, a Windows Installer dialog box starts that suggests that Windows is configuring ECSync.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ECSync but it does not help.  Why is ECSync seem to be tied up with other software

Hi Nick,

Have you installed ECSync under admin rights? In fact I have no idea what the reason for this behaviour is. ECSync is definitely not tied to any other software. Could it be that some Visual Basic features are uninstalled by your Office Suite?

Thanks Thomas for your prompt response.  I cant remember if I installed with admin rights. I will monitor and wait until the problem happens again and then un-install and re-install with admin rights.  In the meantime is there any event log file that I can send to you to review to further research the issue.  Thanks

Ok Nick, let's do it as you proposed. The onliest log that might be available is the Windows event log. But I doubt that there will be any useful information.

It happened again.  I attached a log file which may be relevant.  Now I will uninstall then reinstall with Admin rights.  Then observe.

OK. So I unistalled then re-installed with Admin rights.  Sorry to say, the same thing happened.  As soon as I clicked Word icon to start MS Word 2010, the message box  starts "Windows configuring ECSync......".  It should be noted that I did nothing to start ECSync.  I am attaching error logs.

Looks very strange to me. The error log doesn't tell very much. Only that there was a writing error on file C:\Config.Msi\11a50b.rbf. Was 12-Dec-11 1:01:47 AM the date and time when you installed ECSync?

Perhaps you could give write access to the administrator the the mentioned file or folder. I'm just guessing.

In fact I don't know why Windows tries to reconfigure ECSync. Especially not when an Office application is launched. Never had this before. Does reinstalling Office help?

Reinstalling Office ? Not sure.  I recall having this problem before but I simply tolerated it.  And since then I have done clean install three times and the problem is still there.  I could try uninstalling both Office and ECSync, then reinstalling ECSync first, then Office afterwards.  Not sure if that would make a difference.  But it certainly is a challenge.

Nick, I don't want to force you to do anything I'm not sure of whether it helps. As I already wrote I don't have the slightest idea what the reason for this behaviour is.

Hope your actions help. I can only make guesses in this case.

OK I uninstalled bot ECSync and Office.  I have now installed only ECSync with Admin.  Here is the thing. Whenever I click on the icon, after restarting windows the installer starts and the Windows configuring...box comes up.  Almost as though the program is being installed again. Then if I close it and click again it starts OK.  It seems as though rebooting causes this particular oddity.

Do you have an updated ECSync.msi to send me to try?

There is no newer msi than the one that can be downloaded from the website.

What does the installer log tell now? Is there this strange write error again? And if so, does it occur at the first new install or at the re-install after rebooting?

Well I reformated my drive...clean installed Win 7.  I am still getting the same problem.
